Linking Personal Trials to My Mission
I OVERLOOKED EVERY SIGNAL
During my time in the U.S. Army, I started feeling strange flutters and heavy thuds in my chest that came and went. I noted them, but dismissively. I was in peak condition, a warrior by trade and mindset. I pushed through the sensations, assuming that if I could keep going, it wasn't a threat. Like many, I played a dangerous game of denial, believing my strength made me immune to failure. It was a costly mistake.
THE DAY MY HEART SPOKE LOUDLY
Moving into 2007, I was in a bustling Philadelphia food court when a sudden, crushing tightness gripped my chest. The intensity was undeniable. I felt for my pulse; it was racing too fast for manual measurement. I rushed to the hospital, spending a full day undergoing rigorous testing. A shift in medication and a specialized referral followed, marking the start of a much more serious relationship with my own heart health and professional medical team.
LIVING WITH CHRONIC CARDIAC ISSUES
The symptoms didn't just vanish. I faced ongoing cardiovascular hurdles that required cardioversion and strict medical supervision for years. High blood pressure became my constant shadow for nearly three decades. As a medical professional, I grasped the clinical side of this battle. However, managing a patient is worlds apart from being the patient. This hard-won perspective served as the catalyst for Ignite Physiology, blending professional expertise with human understanding.

NOVEMBER 28, 2024
On November 28, 2024, my world shifted when I suffered a stroke. A quick transit to the VA Hospital and subsequent imaging confirmed the damage. It was an absolute turning point. My life was now split into the time before that day and the time after. While I previously tracked heart health through a clinical lens, this event transformed how I view recovery, movement, and the sheer value of time. Nothing would ever be the same.
